Liz Sanders, author of Inspirational Romance and Mystery
Liz Sanders loves a good story. She grew up in the country on a small farm in Texas, where she loved reading and writing–and she still does! She is married to her real-life hero, and together they lead a quiet life. They have two daughters and their husbands, one son and his wife, and an adorable granddaughter.
Ms. Sanders writes inspirational romance. She earned a BA in English with academic distinction and concentration in writing fiction. She is published in multiple genres, including poetry, academic non-fiction, and fiction. She teaches at a public school in Texas.
Name some of your favorite books.
I was born in Dallas and since my father was in the military, we traveled around for about ten years before settling down in East Texas. Before I fell in love with writing, I loved reading. Truly, there is a blessing in growing up in the country with little television reception. So reading became my entertainment, and fortunately we had books. We had The Book of Knowledge, Trixie Belden, Rich Man, Poor Man, All the President’s Men, and so many other books I fell in love with.
Ann: Kids today are missing a lot of the simple life. Wouldn’t it be great if they had to live a week without technology?
What are who has influenced you most in your writing career?
I earned a BA in English at Texas A&M University-Commerce in 2002 with academic distinction, magna cum laude. (Can you tell I’m proud of that?) I learned the most about writing from two sources—my local newspaper office and a kick-butt English professor! I currently teach high-school-level English. Ultimately, anything and everything good in my life I owe to God and to my family, who have made unreasonable sacrifices for me to live my dream of writing novels.
Ann: Just think, someday many of your students will list you as an influence!
Tell us a little about the first book you’ve published.
My first book SHAKEDOWN! came out about a year ago. It is the first in my DIAMOND RIVER SERIES, and I the second book, SLIPPERY SLOPE, is in the making. The Diamond River Series is a saga about the CANE FAMILY—honest, hard-working people who own and manage an internationally famous resort in the fictitious community, Diamond River, Oklahoma.
Ann: Love your cover and the story sounds interesting. I hope many readers add it to their “to be read” list! I know I have!!
What is one of your favorite quotes?
One of my favorite quotations and mantras for life is a Greek philosopher’s “One must learn by doing the thing…” Isn’t that the truth! Although I dislike making mistakes, I love this saying because it reminds me that human perfection is elusive, and mistakes can teach me to do better and to be better. They are life “revisions.”
Ann: Unfortunately, the best lessons come from failures!
Name your favorite author.
My favorite writer is Sandra Brown. Her skillful precision in writing blows me away—the plot twists, the suspense, and the intrigue are mind-boggling. I want to write that well some day! I realize there is material in her books that is hard to read, but that is life, and I use that to refine my beliefs. Her book Chill Factor is my all-time fiction favorite, and I am currently reading Tailspin.
Ann: Sandra Brown is not one of my regular reads, but I have read her books, and I agree. She’s a skillful writer…and a Texan! You can’t beat that combination!!
SHAKEDOWN! Book One of the Diamond River Series
Jory Cane has been hurt, so has Raine Whitehouse. Find out how God uses their past to create an unbelievable future.
Excerpt
“His eyes shone electric blue. ‘I love you,’ he said again as he leaned closer and kissed her, a determined kiss and her thoughts swirled. When he stopped, she opened her mouth to speak, but he brought up his hand in protest. ‘I’m not finished.’”
Amazon Customer Review: “Thoroughly enjoyed this book! So refreshing to read a great romance novel with real romance.”

SLIPPERY SLOPE Book Two of the Diamond River Series by Liz Sanders
Does Savvy McKay believe what she thinks she believes? Self-delusion is a slippery slope.
Thank you, Ann, for featuring me on your “Five on Friday” session. I first met you when you spoke at a writers’ conference in Texas. I laughed so much during your presentation, but I also learned a lot, too. I admire your wit and your ebullient, yet genuine, personality.
Hello Readers! What type of books do you read? Mystery? Romance? Fantasy? Etc. Or a mixture of all? Be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win a $25 Amazon Gift Card from Liz!
Loved the “I’m not finished” quote! While urban fantasy and time travel are my favorite kind of reads, I like a mixture of everything.
Thanks, Susan! I appreciate you stopping by. ~Ann
I love to read! Historical fiction is my favorite but I am a sucker for any good read! I have always liked to read a series of books or books with recurring characters so that I can find out what happens after the end. I enjoyed reading SHAKEDOWN! and look forward to reading more from Liz Sanders.
Thanks for stopping by and taking time to leave a comment. Liz and I appreciate it. ~Ann
All of the above!
