Today, please welcome my friend and guest, Penny Richards. Like me, she’s a small town country girl. For a peek into her writing life, she’s answered five questions to help you get to know her better.

Who would you choose to play the two lead roles in your book, if it was made into a movie?

I think Sarah Wayne Callies who plays Sarah Tancredi in “Prison Break” would make a wonderful Lilly Long, red hair and all. As for Cade McShane, the under 30 actors seem so “pretty” and young looking. I had to move up a decade, and still have found no one who is perfect for the role, but Jeffery Dean Morgan with black hair, blue eyes and an oft-broken nose (like McShane) might be good. Or Henry Cavill.

Don’t you just love the cover of her new book? I do. The colors are so vivid, Lilly just comes alive!

Do you write in silence or listen to music?

I write in total silence. I don’t even want to hear the “ding” on the computer telling me I have a message. I’m a little attention deficit, and almost anything “shiny” will pull me away from my work. I’d be singing along instead of writing if I listened to music.

What is the loveliest thing you have ever seen?

Oh, I’ve experienced lots of really lovely moments, but recently, there had been a big storm. When I looked outside early the next morning, it was still raining…just a drizzly sort of rain. In the east, a dark layer of clouds hung over the horizon, and then, blazing up from behind it was the sunrise. It was so beautiful and meaningful somehow that it brought me to tears. It seemed to say that even though things get tough and times dark, the sunshine and hope are still there. It was like a promise.

If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would it be?

Fair.

How do you choose a title for your book?

I try to come up with something that embodies what the book is about in just a few words. For the Lilly Long series, since she was a Shakespearean actress, I’m pulling lines from Shakespeare. AN UNTIMELY FROST is about people who died too soon. THOUGH THIS BE MADNESS is about a woman wrongly committed to an insane asylum. Wolf Creek Wife cover
