True Shanahan must be the unluckiest woman in the world. Either that or she’s cursed. After another failed relationship, True leaves Dallas with a broken heart and new attitude. It’s time to walk on the wild side. But when she makes a wrong turn and ends up in Bluebird, Texas, the only man she wants is anything but reckless.

Blurb:
Ever think about going back to study hall to face down the school bully?
The mean girls?
The brainless jocks who made your life a pure misery?
For Dru Horvath, gypsy orphan turned Pulitzer Prize winning photo-journalist; Rafe Archangeli, Scourge of Summerville who now heads a multi-million dollar trust; and Fiona “Fat Aggie” Thorpe who recreated herself into an A-list model with her own A-list agency, the opportunity to exact revenge is too good to pass up.
Will they find the vengeance they crave?
Or something more valuable?

Excerpt:
“Tough way to find out about the other woman.”
“Other woman, hell,” Dru groused. “The assistant was some young stud from Tommy’s gym with abs to die for.”
With that. she side-stepped him and reached for the knob on the bathroom door.
Fast on his feet, Rory’s counter move brought them nose to nose. “Play much poker, Horvath?”
“I don’t know what you mean.”
“Before you started trash talking the cheating ex-husband, your face lit up like the Fourth of July. That tells me you’ve got something stashed in the tote. Until you let me look inside, it stays out here.”
Clutching the canvas tote to her chest, she sneered, “The only thing in here is my outfit for tonight’s event. If you think I’d go naked, one of us is a couple fries short of a happy meal.”
His response came in the form of another gimme motion with those thick, blunt fingers. “How about I close my eyes if I encounter any lacy unmentionables?”
“As if.”
She knew the instant he found the back-up phone. The screw-you look morphed into a smirk. “It’s not smart to mess with Homeland Security, sweetie. Those guys eat small rodents for breakfast.”

Patricia’s Five on Friday Questions
What is the first book that made you cry?
RAMONA by Helen Hunt Jackson. I remember reading it when I was a teenager and I was so overwhelmed by it emotionally. It was the first romantic historical novel that I had ever read and I think it established a love of American historical romances in my heart.
Ann: I didn’t read romance novels until after I married, and I remember weeping sobbing over “Love Story.” I love it when a book makes me cry!
What is your favorite TV show of all time and why?
Supernatural!!! I love Sam and Dean. I think the chemistry between the brothers and the strong family bond that is at the heart of this show is the reason for its continued success. To me, the show never gets old. I have re-watched several of the seasons.
Ann: Well, I gotta say this is a surprise. I figured since you write romance, you would have gone with a lovey-dovey drama! I’m not an avid Supernatural fan but I have watched it. I agree about the brother chemistry!
Your four fantasy guests for a dinner party…living or dead.
Let’s go with living. Melissa McCarthy, Chris Pratt, Trevor Noah, and Betty White. I think that would be a fun party!
Ann: Please invite me to that party!!!
How would you describe the yellow to somebody who is blind?
It is the color that makes you feel happiness and warmth and contentment.
Ann: Great answer!
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
This is an easy one. The French Quarter in New Orleans. Preferably a townhouse on Orleans Street with an excellent air conditioning system, of course. I would love to take an early morning stroll through the Quarter and have a beignet every day.
Ann: I’ve never been to New Orleans but it sure looks like a fun place from the TV shows I’ve seen.

Political Dirty Trick
With all the political news we hear everyday the title of this book should get your attention! Today, I’m pleased to feature my friend, Jim Callan, and his latest release. Check out the answers to his five chosen questions, and follow him on social media. He also has a newsletter where he features other authors and their books, so don’t miss subscribing to that.
Crystal Moore’s good friend Ron Drake is a shoo-in for governor of Texas. Two members of the opposition camp believe their candidate’s only chance is a political dirty trick that will sink Drake’s backing. They execute an elaborate hoax. But something goes terribly wrong and a man is killed. And things only get worse.
The dirty trick is successful. Drake’s support begins to crumble. As Crystal investigates the fake news being released, she becomes a target.
Drake’s numbers sink below his opponent’s and attacks on Crystal increase. Drake may lose the election . . . but Crystal may lose her life.
“Powerful in its characterization, plot, and narrative interactions, Political Dirty Trick is the item of choice for thriller readers who like their stories steeped in realistic scenarios and possibilities.” ~~ Midwest Book Review Senior Reviewer D. Donovan

Five on Friday Questions and Answers
You open your front door and find a penguin wearing a cowboy hat. What does he say?
“Ah, pardon me, but have you seen my horse?”
“Your horse?” I ask.
“Yeah. A seahorse.”
“What color is it?”
“Well, he changes colors. The last time I saw him, he was red. But with all this grass in your yard, if he’s here, he’s probably green.”
“Try our swimming pool around back. It’s blue.”
Ann: I always love it when someone chooses to answer this question!
Top three things on your bucket list? And why?
Go to Antarctica. I’ve traveled to the other 6 continents. It would be nice to visit the seventh.
Float down the Amazon and the Nile. The Amazon is the largest river in the world, by volume. It has pink dolphins. And it used to flow in the opposite direction than it does now. How’s that for a unique river? The Nile is the longest river in the world. And there is so much history connected to it, one should take a ride on it.
Write a book that sells a million copies. That would allow me to catch up to Ann Everett.
Ann: You got me, Jim! That made me laugh out loud. It would be nice if it were true…too bad, it isn’t!!
What is the one thing you do every day that you enjoy the least, but do it anyway?
Get out of bed in the morning. I’m not a morning person. So, I find it unpleasant to get up. I’m more of a night person. I write better at night. I think better at night. Besides, I never get dessert in the morning.
Ann: Well, we are just the opposite in that department. I am an early riser. I get more work done in the wee hours of the morning than any other time!! Hey, and take me word, you can have dessert anytime!!
What is one of your favorite quotes?
“The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings.” from Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare.
Ann: You can never go wrong with a quote from Willie!
What is your favorite book and why?
Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand. Here is just one example of the many, many lines I love in it. “When I have made a line that sings itself so that I love the sound of it, I pay myself.
Ann: I’ve never read Cyrano…I must put it on my list…along with the gazillion other books there!
After a successful career in mathematics and computer science, receiving grants from the National Science Foundation and NASA, and being listed in Who’s Who in Computer Science and Two Thousand Notable Americans, James R. Callan turned to his first love—writing. He has had four non-fiction books published. He now concentrates on his favorite genre, mystery/suspense. His twelfth book released in May, 2018.
And, don’t forget…
Mint Julep Day!
It’s already hot enough in Texas to be sippin’ on some sweet tea. However, today is Mint Julep Day, so here’s a recipe in case you want a little something different to wet your whistle!
Mint Julep Recipe
(from Southern Living)
Ingredients
1 lemon, rinsed
About 2 teaspoons sugar
5 fresh mint sprigs (3 to 5 in.), rinsed and drained
About 1 1/2 cups crushed or shaved ice
1/4 cup bourbon
About 2 tablespoons club soda
Directions
With a vegetable peeler or a sharp knife, pare a 2-inch strip of peel (yellow part only) from the lemon, then cut into long, thin shreds. Cut lemon in half and rub 1 cut side on the rim of a glass (10 to 12 oz.) to moisten; save lemon for other uses. Pour 2 teaspoons sugar on a small plate and dip moist glass rim in it to coat evenly, then pour sugar into glass.
Add 4 mint sprigs to glass. With a wood spoon, crush mint sprigs with sugar to bruise the leaves and release the herb’s flavor. Fill glass with ice. Add bourbon, then fill to rim with club soda. Let stand until glass is frosty, about 2 minutes. Garnish with lemon peel and remaining mint sprig. Sip julep through a straw, adding more sugar to taste.
